Some Stocking Stuffers and Rosemary Flowers

Hi there
Well this morning when I woke up and came out to the kitchen to make breakfast I was delighted to find that my poor scraggly little rosemary plant was flowering. It was like a little late Christmas present...
Such pretty purple flowers
The plant looks so pathetic I keep checking to make sure it's still alive hopefully it will eventually fill out a little I guess you  just got to be patient with plants sometimes.
Anyway thought I'd share some other gifts and stocking stuffers that I didn't want to share before Christmas or I'd give away the surprise.
I made these felt hummingbirds for my aunt and grandma's stockings I used this pattern. The sight has lot's more bird patterns as well here. I made all the owls for my mom.
Now these next ones I posted about before but my friend just started following my blog so I took the post down but I'll put them up again now...
I made these polymer clay roses using this tutorial then made them into earrings for my friend in Alberta my mom and my aunt and I also made a big rose that I made into a brooch for my Grandma. I painted them with mod podge to make them shiny and they went over quite well. I'll sort of explain what I did below.

I found this ring holder for my friend as well I hope she still wears rings.

I knitted up this snake scarf for my friend as well I found the eyes at a second hand store, I used cotton.

I made these coasters from the purl bee, I love how bright they are.

I sent along a makeup bag I made from fused plastic.

I made chocolate marshmallows or snow balls but I used....

homemade marshmallows with this recipe here. I actually found a recipe for "healthy" marshmallows as well if you want to give those a try if you do let me know how it goes.
So I think that's all my gifts posted now I'll share a couple hints for making the clay earrings..
Okay so first off it's really hard to get the back of your rose smooth before you bake it without smooshing it, so after you bake your rose your probably going to have to smooth the back. I used a dremel on a med-low speed (to fast and you shoot your rose across the room and have to crawl around on your hands and knees looking for it ha ha) but I'm sure you could use sandpaper just be careful not to catch your petals because as you can see it kind of discolors your clay.
Now I used E-6000 glue and used a toothpick to apply glue to the rose and the earring post, let it set for about a minute then smoosh the earring post to the rose hold for a couple seconds then...

just set your earring like this to dry really well I left mine overnight then if you want a glossy finish...

stick your earrings in a piece of oasis or Styrofoam whatever is handy and paint them with glossy mod podge.  Or if you don't want to spend a ridiculous amount of money on watered down white glue make your own. It's so easy to make your own mod podge and who wants to spend that much on white glue with a bit of clear varnish in it.
Hope everyone had a Merry Christmas and I hope to see you next time.
